Rev. James Dixon, Jr.

DIRECTOR: Pastor, James Dixon, Jr.
 

Pastor James Dixon, Jr. is a native of Birmingham, Alabama.  He received an Associate of Science Degree from Lawson State Jr. College and a Bachelor's Degree from Samford University, both of Birmingham, Alabama.  He is also a graduate of Howard University School of Divinity, Washington, D.C. where he received a Master of Divinity Degree. He has served in the Military and received an honorable discharge.

 

Pastor Dixon served as a home missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention for eight years until he accepted the call to return to the pastorate.  He is presently the Pastor of the El-Bethel Baptist Church located in Fort Washington, Maryland. He has served as Black Church Development Director for the Prince Georges Baptist Association. He has served as moderator for the Prince George’s Baptist Association. He served a two-year term as the First Vice President of the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware followed by a two year term as President. He has served as Missionary Consultant in African American Church Development & Discipleship Ministry for BCMD, and has served as Vice-President of the Centre Pointe Counseling Center. Rev. Dixon served as Vice-President of the National African-American Fellowship SBC and followed by a two-year term as President. He has served a three-year term on the African American Council for the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.  He is presently serving on the Ethnic Convention Advancement Advisory Council for the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. He is the Director of the Antioch Institute; a new initiative specifically designed to train African American leaders to go out as teams, evangelize, start Bible studies and begin new self-supporting churches. He is the Director of the Antioch Church Planting Center. Rev. Dixon is presently serving as a board member of the Columbia International University, Columbia, South Carolina. He is newly elected to the Bright Futures USA Board of Directors, Joplin, MO.

 

He has been married to his childhood sweetheart, the former Miss Dessie Harris for a period of Forty-three years.  Rev. Dixon is the father of four children, Anthony, Natasha, Christopher and Shavaun, and the grandfather of eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 

He has been in the ministry for thirty-nine years and has pastored a total of five churches.  He has traveled extensively around the world preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.  His future goal is to continue his education and receive his Doctorate Degree in pastoral care and counseling.  He is a ministering servant who has been set apart to make a difference in the kingdom.  He truly loves the Lord with all his heart, and is committed to carrying out the will, the ways, and the works of God.
